The LED's just showing the "Demo light Pattern". What's up?

The Fretlight Guitar goes through a very brief initialization process with your computer. As soon as the Fretlight cable is plugged in on both sides, the fretboard will display the demo light pattern; This means that power is getting from the computer to the guitar. As soon as the computer recognizes the Fretlight, the lights go out. (on Windows XP you may even hear a sound telling you this has happened) If the lights do not go out, it means that something is prohibiting a proper connection.

Here are some quick and helpful troubleshooting procedures:

1. Check BOTH ends of the Fretlight cable to make sure they are FULLY inserted. You should see no silver end of either plug.

2. Ensure that the Fretlight is plugged into a ROOT USB port. This is most likely the USB port in the back of your desktop. We do not recommend using external USB hubs, or USB extenders. The Fretlight should be plugged directly into your computer.

3. If you have an optical mouse, unplug it. Some manufacturers of optical mouses make them to be "USB hogs" controlling every place for USB devices, and leaving no room for the Fretlight to communicate.

4. Restart your machine without the Fretlight plugged in. After your machine restarts, plug the Fretlight in and then launch the appropriate Fretlight software. (this is usually the fix if you experience problems right after an install of software.)
